North Korea’s representative political theory magazine, 근로자 Kŭlloja (The Worker), was established on October 25, 1946, as the official publication of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea. The magazine is published by the Kŭlloja Publishing House under the Workers’ Party Publishing Bureau, and its printing is handled by the P'yŏngyang General Printing Factory. It is published in the 4×6 baepan (Korean large-format) size, approximately 7.4 × 10.1 inches, and contains 80 to 90 pages printed on uncoated paper. The title 근로자 Kŭlloja was personally given by Kim Il-sŏng.

The magazine’s primary audience is party cadres and members, and it focuses on promoting the Workers’ Party’s policies and guidelines, featuring editorials that contribute to the establishment of Kim Il-sŏng’s monolithic ideology. It also plays a key role in fostering the internalization of communist values among the working masses and carries out organizational and leading functions for the Party Central Committee. Additionally, the magazine regularly publishes documents, speeches, letters, and talks from Kim Il-sŏng and Kim Chŏng-il.
