SOSC 13300: Social Science Inquiry

A guide to research tools and services for students in the Social Science Inquiry course.

Why Cite?

Using information fairly and acknowledging sources accurately is an essential part of any research project. Citations provide information to help readers locate the sources you use, provide evidence for your work, and provide a way for you to credit other scholars for their original ideas or findings.

Citations are more than just a requirement to complete your assignments. Citations also assign intellectual value, legitimacy, and authority to scholars and their work.

Most researchers use style guides or manuals to format their citations in a consistent way so their readers can quickly identify and locate cited sources.

Create Citations

Just need to create a quick bibliography? Many of the Library's research databases (including the Library Catalog) include an option to create a citation for sources you locate in different styles (often under "Cite" or "Export").

There are also tools that will help you create citations quickly in standard styles by entering an ISBN, DOI, or by entering relevant information (author, title, date, etc.)
