Mergent Archives is a collection of historical materials, including Moody's Manuals, corporate annual reports and SEC filings. We now offer access to two new segments.
This was first published in 1959. The goal was to include every U.S. business that was valued at one million dollars or more, although that criteria changed over time. It has always included publicly traded and privately held companies.
Entries include addresses, estimated sales, industrial category and executives. They also indicate whether a company is a subsidiary, but don't always list subsidiaries of the parent. Older editions have details on operating divisions in large companies. Each year also has cross-listings by geography and industry and an alphabetic list of executives. We have this in print for 1969-2004, but Mergent has scanned this as PDFs that can be downloaded and saved. We hope this is useful for historical research on companies and industries.
This collection has statements submitted by companies to the New York Stock Exchange, either as applications to list on the exchange or to issue additional shares. This covers 1883-1979. The NYSE required a company to submit financial statements and information on the structure and management of a company prior to allowing it to trade on the Exchange. These were often the only place such information was publicly disclosed prior to the passage of the Securities and Exchange Act in 1934, which mandated disclosure for publicly traded companies. Find it in Mergent Archives under SEC Filings.
