How do I find books?

Tips

  • A keyword search can include any information about the book such as author, title, subject, publisher etc.
  • When conducting a general search for title, author etc., the order of the words does not need to reflect the catalog entry.
  • Take your search skills to the next level with these Power Searching tools.

If books are not at UChicago, search WorldCat and request items using Interlibrary Loan (more info):

Getting Started with the Library Catalog

To find books at the University of Chicago Library, begin with the Catalog

Catalog search feature on Library website

You can quickly access the Catalog from the front page of the Library's website.  Enter your search terms and select the type of search you would like to use.

Additional features, including an advanced keyword search with limits by format and language, are available by using the full catalog interface.

The video below describes some of key search features of the new Catalog interface.

If you can't find the book you're looking for at one of our libraries, click the "Finding Books at Other Libraries" tab on the left to learn how to request it from another location.
