Library Services and Collections for Study Abroad

Information about Library resources and services available to undergraduates in the UChicago Study Abroad programs.

Accessing Books and Course Materials

While abroad, you can:

  • Search the Library's catalog for ebooks (view the ebooks help guide to learn how to search for ebooks in the Library's catalog);

  • Search for articles and other scholarly resources in our ejournals and databases;

  • Obtain scans of book chapters and journal articles in the Library's general collections through the Scan & Deliver service;

  • Use UChicago's Interlibrary Loan services to request articles and book chapter scans that are not in the Library's collections; and

  • Access electronic course reserves.

Using the Library's Print Collections Away From Campus

  •   The Library is unable to mail books to you, however, if you need a copy of a chapter or article in our collection, you can use the Library's Scan and Deliver service.

  • If you would like for the Library to obtain a specific work as an ebook, you may place a purchase request. We recommend that you indicate that you are studying abroad in the email. Purchase requests are dependent on funds, as well as cost and availability of items.

  • PLEASE NOTE: If you have items checked out from the Library that you have brought overseas with you, these are still subject to recall. If an item is recalled while you are away from campus, you may return by mail.
