Non-Roman Alphabets in UChicago Library catalog

How do I find non-Roman and right-to-left language resources in the catalog?

The UChicago catalog uses the romanization system developed by the ALA and the Library of Congress. The catalog also allows for searching with original language fonts; many items are cataloged in the original script but most titles are cataloged in transliteration only. For example, you will see very different results for a search on "Muhammad" versus a search on "محمد". When using transliteration, it is not necessary to include the diacritical marks (dots, macrons, and the characters for ʿayn and hamzah).

Searching WorldCat in Arabic, or other Middle Eastern languages, is possible and is a good way to find sources held at other libraries, but it is not the best method for locating titles held by the University of Chicago. In WorldCat, click the "Find It" button to see the University of Chicago catalog record.
