Using the D'Angelo Law Library

  • Call Number Guide
Provides floor and range location information for specific call numbers
  • Law Books in Storage
To page books that are in storage, use the online storage request form. Items stored in Mansueto Library may be requested from Lens or HIP using the "Request from Mansueto Library" link.
  • Carrels
Carrels are assigned by the library staff to each journal. Your editors will assign carrel space to you for cite-checking and other journal projects. Primary law books (case reporters, codes, legislative sets), bound law journals, and non-circulating treatises may be checked out to a carrel. Materials from other campus libraries also may be checked out to carrels. Books obtained on interlibrary loan may not be checked out to carrels.
  • Paging From Other Campus Libraries
The D'Angelo Law Library offers a service to retrieve and deliver uncharged Library materials located in the stacks of other libraries on campus. This service is available only to students at the Law School. Materials will generally be collected and delivered to the appropriate carrel by 5 pm the following business day.
  • Scan & Deliver
You may request scanned PDFs of journal articles and judicial opinions that the Library owns that are not available electronically. You may also request up to two chapters from a book the Library owns, but no more than 20% of the entire book. The PDF should be available within 4 business days. There is a limit of 10 requests per day.
  • Search Forms
You may use the online form or fill out a search form at the Circulation Desk for items that are not on the shelf and not checked out in the Library Catalog.
  • Research Guides
Available on the D'Angelo Law Library web page for legislative history, congressional, supreme court, corporate and securities, treaties, intellectual property and other areas of legal research.
  • Library Collections and Subjects
Provides links to subject web pages (economics, history, sociology, etc.) created by librarian specialists in other libraries on campus.

Finding Books

  • Lens
University of Chicago Library search tool for locating books and other resources in the Library's collections as well as electronic resources licensed by and created by the Library.
  • Library Catalog
Your starting point for identifying and locating books, treatises and journal titles in the print and electronic collections of the D'Angelo Law Library and other campus libraries.
  • Worldcat
A union catalog containing the holding of thousands of libraries worldwide. Use to determine other libraries that own a resource and for initiating an interlibrary loan request.

Finding Law Journal Articles

For more information about finding law journal articles, consult the Library's Law Journals page. To locate full-text of journal articles, use the E-journals list or Lens to determine which Library databases contain full-text of a journal.
