Information on using ProQuest TDM Studio for text mining and analysis

ProQuest TDM Studio

ProQuest TDM Studio is a cloud-based tool for performing text and data mining on content that the Library licenses from ProQuest. This includes current and  historical newspapers, news wires, trade journals and magazines, and theses and dissertations.
TDM Studio gives researchers the ability to analyze large textual datasets that had previously been unavailable due to copyright and technical limitations.

TDM Studio offers two means of access:

  • Visualizations, which currently offers geographic analysis of datasets of up to 20,000 documents. This is available to current UChicago students, faculty and staff. Publications are currently limited to a selection of newspapers.
  • Workbench, which requires programming in Python or R and allows working with datasets up to 2,000,000 documents and includes many more publications
