What is Zotero?

Zotero is a free citation management tool that helps you collect, organize, and share citations. Zotero is freely available for download from www.zotero.org. You can use Zotero to:

  • Automatically capture citations from library catalogs, databases and web sites.
  • Organize your citations and sources, including pdfs, images, and other documents.
  • Annotating your PDFs and taking notes.
  • Collaborating with other researchers on projects.
  • Creating bibliographies and footnotes automatically in a variety of citation styles (Chicago, MLA, APA, and more).

Zotero works on PCs, Macs, and Linux systems, and is compatible with MS Office, Google Docs, and Open Office. An iOS app is also available.

The University of Chicago Library provides unlimited storage on Zotero's cloud services to UChicago users, and provides support for Zotero through workshops, webinars, and consultations.
