Author and Research Identifiers

Introduction to various persistent identifiers in the scholarly communication ecosystem.

About ROR Identifier

The Research Organization Registry (ROR) is an international, community-led initiative that issues persistent identifiers to disambiguate entities in the research lifecycle.  A ROR ID is associated with an online record that is populated with descriptive information about the referenced entity.  For example, the ROR ID for the University of Chicago is https://ror.org/024mw5h28.

ROR IDs are used by funding agencies, academic publishers, and other organizations to prevent errors or confusion caused by a name change, merger, or closure.  In conjunction with ORCID iD and DOI, ROR ID constitutes part of the open scholarly infrastructure and plays a role in clarifying the connections among research organizations, researchers, and research outputs.  The video below provides details about ROR ID.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Center for Digital Scholarship.
