Wharton Research Data Services, commonly referred to as WRDS (and pronounced "Words"), is a collection of economic, finance, management and marketing databases that are delivered through a common web interface.
WRDS uses individual accounts, which must be approved by a local administrator before access is granted. Current students, faculty and staff are eligible.
The WRDS Day Pass gives you access to all current data subscriptions and is good way to try out the system before requesting an account.
Current students and faculty may request a Day Pass for WRDS access. You must register with your UChicago email address and agree to the full WRDS terms and conditions.
There is no limit to the number of Day Passes you can request.
Enter an email when you submit data requests. Any that take more than 24 hours will be available to download and you will get an email from WRDS. You will need to change the link to use our proxy server so that WRDS can verify that you are an authorized user. The email will send you a link that looks like this
https://wrds-www.wharton.upenn.edu/query-manager/query-document/3646757/
It needs to look like this to retrieve the data query
https://wrds-www-wharton-upenn-edu.proxy.uchicago.edu/query-manager/query-document/3646757/
Our ProxyIt tool is the easiest way to make this conversion. Visit our Off Campus Access guide to learn more.
Compustat and CRSP (Center for Research in Securities Prices) are the most frequently accessed datasets in WRDS.
There are many other datasets in WRDS and not all are available to University of Chicago researchers. Current subscriptions will be displayed when you log in, but in some cases not all parts of a product are available.
