Sources for free electronic access to journals, books, & databases.

About this guide

This guide compiles free online resources.

The majority of the University of Chicago Library's resources are only available to University of Chicago students, faculty, staff and in-library users. The resources in this guide may be freely accessed by the general public.

Access to University of Chicago Library resources will depend on the user's location and affiliation with the University.

  • Current UChicago-affiliated researchers can take full advantage of library resources on or off-campus. Find what you're looking for by searching in the library catalog.
  • Information about library access for UChicago Alumni can be found on the Electronic Resources for Alumni guide.
  • The University of Chicago Library welcomes visitors to its spaces and to consult its collections on-site.
  • If not local, become a member of your local public library or visit a state university or college. Librarians at these places can help you understand your research opportunities.

If you have any questions, please ask a librarian.
