Here are some examples and strategies for searching the library catalog using Library of Congress subject headings, which are more precise than keywords.

• Migration: search by country of arrival and add "Emigration and immigration," for example United States--Emigration and immigration​
   
• Immigrants may be further broken down by names of places where immigrants settle, for example, Immigrants--California and by various topics, such as  Immigrants--United States--Biography
   
• Diaspora communities: use the nationality group and the place in which they live, for example South Asians--United States; or Migration Internal --Southern States or Iranian Americans
   
• Children of Immigrants or Immigrant Children or Women Immigrants
   
• Refugees and Political Refugees both subdivide by subdivide by host country and by topic.
   
• Forced Migration or Internally Displaced Persons; both headings subdivide geographically and by topic, for example Forced Migration--Columbia
   
• Return migration subdivides topically and by return country.
