This guide highlights Library resources helpful for undergraduates enrolled in the one-quarter intensive writing seminar, Inquiry, Conversation, Argument (ICA).

Answers to Your Questions

The following FAQs draw from the questions submitted in your library session evaluation form during Autumn Quarter 2025.

How can I meet with a Librarian?

You can quickly and easily send an email or set up a consultation appointment with a librarian through our Ask a Librarian service.

How Can I Find Books / Request an Interlibrary Loan?

The Academic Books tab of this research guide provides guidance for locating and accessing books in our print and ebook collection. Included are links to the Regenstein Floor Maps as well as a video tutorial for requesting materials through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). If you have questions about finding materials or putting through an ILL request, please Ask a Librarian!

How Can I Explore Special / Distinctive Collections?

The Library is home to some incredible distinctive collections that can be used for primary source research. Among them are the Map Collection, the East Asian collection, and the Southern Asia Collection. Additionally, students can visit the Special Collections Research Center where you’ll find our collection of rare books, manuscripts, and the University archives, which includes University of Chicago campus publications and the University of Chicago photographic archive. To learn more about how to engage with materials, please Ask a Librarian!

What kinds of Library tools should I know about and use?

This is a great question! We've highlighted three of our favorite Library tools below. Each of them is perfect for this stage of your academic careers! Browzine allows you to stay on top of recent publications in a field (in a user-friendly interface!), LibKey Nomad makes it easy to access journal articles when you're browsing on the web, and Zotero helps you keep track of articles, books, and other sources you're using for class/research.
