How do I request items from Mansueto?

Provides a step-by-step explanation of how to request items from the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library.

Identifying Items to Request

Once you click on the link, you will be prompted to log into the Catalog with your CNetID and password.  Affiliated users will use your Library barcode and PIN. The Catalog will remember you for the rest of your session until you log out of your account.

Visitors to the University of Chicago Library who do not have borrowing privileges and would like to consult material in Mansueto should ask for assistance at the Mansueto Circulation desk.

"Consult the Series Record"

In the Library Catalog, you may encounter records which display the text "Consult the Series Record." To find the availability or request these items from Mansueto:

  1. Make a note of the volume number you need.
  2. Click the link "Consult the Series Record."
  3. From the list that displays, click the call number which DOES NOT include a volume number. This is the series record.
  4. In the series record, scroll down to view Holdings. This is where individual volumes are listed.
  5. Find the volume you need -- it may be necessary to click "View more items" to display the volume you need.
  6. Next to the volume you need, check its availability.
  7. If it is available in Mansueto, click the link to "Request from Mansueto Library" and complete the request form.
  8. If it is available in another library, you may go to its shelving location and retrieve it.

Selecting a Pickup Location

Once you've finalized the list of items you want to request, you must designate a pickup location. Choose one of four locations from the drop-down list under "Select Pickup Location".

You can select to have the items available for you in Mansueto within 15 minutes of your request (during Mansueto's open hours) or to have the items delivered to another pickup location (Crerar, D'Angelo Law, or SSA) in one business day (excluding weekends and holidays). Items will be held at the circulation desk.
