Who can request Mansueto items
Any user with borrowing privileges may request items from Mansueto from any computer with an internet connection.
To determine whether you are eligible for borrowing privileges, consult our Access and Privileges page for more information.
Users who do not have borrowing privileges should ask for assistance at the Mansueto Circulation desk to request items.
Finding a Mansueto item
If an item's location is listed as Mansueto in Lens or the Library Catalog, and its status is "Available for request," click on the "Request from Mansueto Library" link to bring up the Mansueto request window.
Using the Mansueto Request Window
Once you click on the "Request from Mansueto Library" link, login with your CNet ID and password or Library barcode and PIN (what's this?). Once you've logged in, the system will remember you for the rest of your session until you log out.
Visitors to the University of Chicago Library who do not have borrowing privileges and would like to consult material in Mansueto should ask for assistance at the Mansueto Circulation desk.
Working with the Pending Requests List
Once you're logged in you can see a list of items that are pending requests from Mansueto, including the item you just searched. From here you can either place the request by clicking on the "Request All Items" button...
...or you can continue searching for more items before submitting the request by clicking on the "X" button in the top right corner of the request box to close the window. You will stay logged in and the request window will remember all the items you've added to your list so you can request them all at once. You may add up to 25 items to your pending request list before submitting a request.
You can also remove an item from your "Pending Requests" list before placing your request by clicking on the "remove" link next to the item.
Finally, you can choose to clear your entire list and log out without placing any requests by clicking on the "clear list and logout" link at the top of the request window.
Choosing a Pickup Location
Once you've finalized the list of items you want to request, you can choose to have the items available for you in Mansueto within 15 minutes of your request (during Mansueto's open hours) or to have the items delivered to another pickup location (e.g., Crerar or D'Angelo Law) in one business day (excluding weekends and holidays). Select a pickup location from the drop-down list under Pickup Location.
If you choose to pickup your items in Mansueto, you can simply ask for them at the Mansueto Circulation Desk. The corridor leading to Mansueto is on the 1st floor of Regenstein, immediately south of the main stairs.
Placing Your Request
Once you've chosen a pickup location, you can place your request by clicking on the "Request All Items" button. You will then see a confirmation screen that the request is being processed.
Checking the Status of Your Requests
When an item is placed on hold at your requested pickup location, you will receive an email notifying you that it is available for pickup. Once the item has been placed on hold at the requested pickup location, it will be held for you for 7 days.
Email notices are sent hourly, so most Mansueto requests will be available for pickup significantly before the email notice is sent. To check on the status of your Mansueto requests, log into My Account and select Hold Requests.
