Chicago Municipal Code

The Municipal Code of Chicago is the codification of the laws and ordinances governing the City of Chicago. It is available online from the American Legal Publishing Corporation, although the City provides the disclaimer: "[T]he American Legal Publishing Corporation's 'Municipal Code of Chicago' is provided as an information service only. The City of Chicago is not responsible for the content of any referenced or linked off-site page and is not liable for that content. Although the Code compilation found on the American Legal site is believed to be reliable, no warranty, expressed or implied, is made regarding any information on that site."

Chicago Legislative History

The Journal of the Proceedings of the City Council is the primary source for Chicago legislative history. It includes information about the sponsor of the ordinance, committee referral, and legislative status, such as introduced, passed, or deferred and published. It also provides the full text of any new ordinance and changed or repealed text for amendments to existing ordinances. The Office of the Chicago City Clerk provides access to the Journal of the Proceedings of the City Council back to 1981. The Library also has print copies from 1868 to the present.
