Citation Alert Services

Citation alert services allow you to track new articles that cite an article or author you have chosen by sending you an e-mail every time the article or author has been cited.  The databases listed below offer citation and author alerts.

Journal Tables of Contents Alert Services

Receive the latest table of contents of your favorite journals with table of contents (TOC) alerts, which are sent as e-mail messages or RSS feeds (see more about RSS below).  To set up an alert, go to an e-journal and follow the directions found under headings such as "alerts" or "e-mail table of contents."

Learn more about setting up email alerts from your favorite journals in this short online tutorial.

    Database Search Alert Services

Database search alerts allow you to save searches and receive an email or RSS feed of new results.  Below are just some of the databases that offer alerts.  You need to register for a free individual account in each database to set up search alerts.

    RSS Feeds

RSS feeds push updates of websites or blogs to your RSS reader, so you don't have to check the individual sites. Instead of visiting each site,  subscribe to the site's RSS feed, and updates will be delivered directly to your RSS reader.

Major web browsers come with an RSS reader.  You can also create an account with a web-based reader, such as Bloglines or Google Reader.  Read more about getting an RSS reader and subscribing to RSS feeds from your favorite journals at the Galther Health Sciences Library.
