A guide to library resources for students in Professor Lyon's class

Modern editions

There are many excellent series of modern editions of primary sources related to various themes in this course. Here are a few examples.

English town histories

Regional historical societies have been compiling volumes of local records since the early nineteenth century. There are several ways to locate these sources.

Start with a town:

  • Ipswich (England) -- History – Sources

Start with a type of source:

  • Probate records -- England -- Ipswich
  • Court records -- England -- Ipswich

Or search by the English Regional Record Society publications series (examples):

Here is a master list of Society publications organized by county: http://royalhistsoc.org/publications/national-regional-history/english-regional-history-and-record-societies/
