Remote Access for Medical Center Employees

How can I access ejournals at home?

  1. Use the Library's E-Journals List to open an ejournal, so that you are prompted to authenticate.
  2. When prompted to sign in with a CNetID and password, use your UCHAD ID and password if you do not have a CNetID.
  3. The ejournal will open.

These instructions apply to Library resources only, and not the Medical Center Intranet or other UCMC applications. If you do not know your UCHAD ID, contact the Medical Center Help Desk at 2-3456.

Additional information about remote access, including alternative methods, is available on the Connecting to Electronic Resources page.

How can I access the full text of an article found in PubMed while at home?

  1. Open PubMed using the UChicago-specific web address: http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/h/pubmed.
  2. Search PubMed.
  3. Click on the  Find it button icon in the upper right of the Abstract view; a new window or tab will open.
  4. Click on the link in the upper left box labeled "Find It Online." A new tab or window opens to the article.

Problems?

If you are unable to open a specific e-journal or database to which the Library subscribes (i.e. listed in the Catalog, E-Journals, or the Database Finder), please email the Library or call the Crerar Reference Desk at 773-702-7715 during our operating hours.

Why do I need to sign in from home?

While on the University campus or at the Medical Center, access to the Library's electronic resources is available because your computer's IP address identifies you as an authorized user at the University of Chicago. When accessing the same resources from home, your home computer's IP address is not a recognized address, and you must therefore sign in to verify you are an authorized user.

Who is eligible to access e-resources?

Due to licensing agreements, remote access to electronic library resources is restricted to faculty, students, and staff of the University of Chicago with a current computing account (CNetID) and Medical Center employees with a CNetID or a UCHAD network ID.  For more information on CNetID eligibility, go to the IT Services Accounts Eligibility Supplemental Document: https://answers.uchicago.edu/policies/page.php?id=19340.
